What is Yoga Nidra?

Yoga Nidra is a form of guided meditation known as 'Yogic Sleep', derived from the tantras. During Yoga Nidra the body appears to be asleep, but the consciousness is functioning at a deeper level of awareness. We develop a feeling of full relaxation while engaging in a meditative enquiry.

How long does it last?

It can last anywhere between 10 to 60 minutes. You lie down, get as comfortable as possible, and all you have to do is listen to the instructors voice.

What makes it different to other meditations?

Yoga Nidra has a specific step by step process of preparation, relaxation, setting your resolve, rotation of consciousness, awareness of breath, awareness of sensation, visualisation, and externalisation.

What is the ultimate point of it?

As we are in a state between wakefulness and sleep, the door between the conscious and subconscious mind remains open. Our subconscious mind is like tender soil, where whatever we plant is easily accepted. So we can use this state to plant our deepest desires and allow the fruits to enrich our lives.

Other benefits of Yoga Nidra?

Relaxation is an incredible by-product of Yoga Nidra. The practice allows us to rest more efficiently. 1 hour of Yoga Nidra is equivalent to 4 hours of ordinary sleep without awareness. It also helps alleviate physical, mental and emotional tensions.
