What is chair yoga?
Chair Yoga is perfect for people who have restricted movement due to ageing, disability, injury, or lack of desire. It helps people to maintain mobility through movement, and allow well-being through breath practice and relaxation.
Chair Yoga is the perfect example of yoga being accessible to everybody, whatever your ability. Chair Yoga is practised sitting on a chair or standing using the chair for support. Yoga postures are adapted to a chair where it’s not possible for a person to get down on the floor.
As we age our mobility decreases. Less flexibility and weaker muscles mean a lot of us decide that yoga’s not possible for us. Chair Yoga allows you to continue or start practicing safely, and improves mobility, flexibility and strength (as well as being a lot of fun!).
All you need is a chair! Your chair needs to be sturdy, maybe padded and supported on a steady surface.
